Hello Fellow Scientists!
Hope
everyone is having a wonderful new year so far! With January getting into full
gear, the temperature has really started to drop! It would also seem that a
nasty cold has been moving around, but contrary to what most people think, the
cold weather doesn’t make you sick. It’s true that people are more likely to
come down with the sniffles during the wintertime, but it’s the germs that make
you sick, not the chilly weather. Viruses like the cold and the flu are easily
spread during colder weather conditions, which is why most people get sick
during this time.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t
bundle up though! Staying out in the cold can lower your body’s natural
immunity, and if you come into contact with anyone who’s sick, you’ll be more
likely to catch it as well. So it’s not surprising that during the winter time,
when we’re all cooped up inside enjoying our heated homes, that we spread our
germs around to each other more easily.
With this in mind, I hope everyone
stays happy and healthy as we begin 2014! Here at the museum we’re getting
ourselves ready for another year of awesome science experiments, and fun
programs. I hope to see some of you here in the near future!
