Mission to Mars

Whenever the kids are off from school for breaks and holidays, that is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of programming here at the Science Museum of Long Island.  Our most recent holiday event, Mission to Mars occurred on Veterans Day, Nov 11.   The day was filled with astronomical sciences and if you didn’t attend it, you missed out on a day that was out of this world.  Children participated in hand on science activities where they learned about the many objects in our solar system.  They explored many facts about planets and their distance from the sun, saw how an astronaut lives in space, and even tried samples of freeze dried ice cream.

 The highlight of the day however, had to be Starlab, our inflatable planetarium.  If you have never experienced Starlab, it is quite a sight to see.  From the moment the kids entered the building, they couldn’t wait to go inside.  They were delighted to learn about the life cycle of stars and facts about the Milky Way, but no Starlab experience is complete without hearing stories about the many constellations.
